As you can tell by looking, the bobcat is a close relative of our domesticated cat, but is about twice as large. Bobcats are elusive creatures and usually nocturnal. We’re lucky to have this great photo. They stalk their prey carefully, quietly and then pounce quickly, leaping up to 10 feet. Bobcats are carnivores (meat eaters) and feast on rabbits, hares, birds, mice, insects and even small deer. Their coloration offers good camouflage as they wind their way through the woodlands, blending in with the grasses, tree trunks and shadows. If you hear a growling sounds that makes you think of a small lion, it’s probably a bobcat letting its opinion be known.
